GPnav was created with one goal, to simplify the daily tasks of General Practice reception staff while ensuring that every patient receives the care they need. Our software aligns perfectly with targets defined with Primary Care Network (PCN), GP Federation, and NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) goals by providing structured and consistent care navigation. Created by General Practice, for General Practice.

Dr. Ahmad Ali is a GP Partner at Tower Family Healthcare, a leading general practice based in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Originally trained as a surgeon with a focus on urology, Dr. Ali later transitioned into General Practice, bringing a wealth of clinical experience. He leads on medical student training at the practice, working in partnership with the University of Manchester, and plays a key role in shaping the next generation of doctors.

As Deputy Clinical Director for the Horizon Primary Care Network — a collaboration of seven forward-thinking practices — Dr. Ali helps drive high-quality, responsive, and personalised care across the region.

With a strong interest in the operational side of healthcare, he leads on access within his practice, constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency and patient experience.

Alongside colleague Paul Massey, Dr. Ali co-developed GPnav — a tool designed to bring consistency and clarity to care navigation in general practice.

Paul Massey
Managing Partner I GPnav Co-Creator

Paul Massey is the Managing Partner at Tower Family Healthcare, a large multi-sited general practice in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Having worked in the NHS since the age of 21, Paul has always looked for better ways to solve everyday challenges in general practice. Before creating GPnav, he spent three months listening to almost 1,000 patient calls and logging the outcomes.

Calls are the main access point into primary care, and the findings showed that if practices want the first contact to count, they need a consistent and reliable way to navigate patients. That insight led directly to the creation of GPnav.

Paul likes good data, clear progress, and turning problems into practical solutions. He dislikes inefficiency, poor data, and systems that make life harder.

GPnav

Consistent care navigation solution

GPnav was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 2022. It spent its early years being built and tested, shaped by the real-world needs of general practice.

In November 2024, GPnav flew the nest — ready to help more practices make the first contact count. Since then, it has continued to grow through the ideas and feedback of the people who use it. By listening to suggestions and acting on them, GPnav is always evolving into a better system — built with practices, for practices.

GPnav enjoys helping reception teams feel confident, ensuring patients get to the right care first time, and supporting practices to run more smoothly. It dislikes confusion at the first point of contact, patients being bounced around, and wasted time for everyone.

GPnav’s ambition is simple: to get patients the right care at the right time — and to keep growing into a trusted part of every practice across the UK.
